CCLC advocates for adult education services and clients, including organizing rallies and meeting with elected officials.

National advocacy

The Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE), the National Council of State Directors of Adult Education (NCSDAE), and the National Adult Education Professional Development Consortium have launched a campaign to raise awareness about Adult Education. The Educate & Elevate campaign aims to inform elected officials, policy makers, and funders about the impact that this field has on students, businesses, and our workforce. A letter writing campaign was launched in April; the full campaign will launch in May. For more information, click here.

State advocacy

Illinois has operated without a state budget since July 1, 2015. In June 2016, the General Assembly passed a temporary stopgap measure aimed to provide relief to human services and education. In December 2016, the temporary funding measure expired, leaving programs without state funding. Click here to read updates about the budget impasse.

On March 29th, the Coalition traveled to Springfield to participate in IACEA’s Legislative Awareness Day. See photos from the day below, including pictures from our meetings with Rep. Julianna Stratton and the Executive Director of the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB), Karen Hunter-Anderson!
